WHO Says a Surge in COVID Cases, Especially in Europe

On Wednesday, it was stated by Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, who is the director-general of the World Health Organisation WHO that it is true of vaccination providing protection and security from the deadly virus of this pandemic. Yet, there are a lot of misconceptions and a “false sense of security” related to the coronavirus. This misconception has proved bad for many countries, especially Europe, which is again facing the Surge in COVID cases.

Previously, Europe had the most reported cases with the most death rate among other countries, and now in this delta variant wave too, Europe is facing a sensitive situation, especially in its hospitals.

As the holiday season has just approached, people would be indoors in small places packed with their families and friends. Although it sounds tremendous, it would be harmful overall for everyone because the spread of the virus through these gatherings will be way more than usual.

With this intermixing of people with the slightest conscience of social distancing and Covid 19 preventive measures, it would be hard to control the transmission of delta variants. This new variant already spreads at a higher rate than other variants, so these holiday get-togethers will not be in the best of interest for everyone. World Health Organization agrees to this too and has warned the world against it.

In a new conference, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that Europe alone had the most cases than anywhere else in the whole world. It was reported that the total death and infection cases were sixty percentage points more here than in the rest of the world.

He further stated that the biggest threat right now and the most significant source of virus spread is the sense of security that people have falsely developed among themselves that with vaccination alone, they will be safe from the COVID 19 infection and its deadly effects, also because of those people too who think that the pandemic has come to an end and there is no more virus from which they need to be afraid of.

These people need to realize that neither the coronavirus has been eliminated nor the vaccines guarantee 100% safety from COVID 19 infection. The best we can do is take precautions for our own sake and for the sake of our loved ones too.

World Health Organization stated that right now, the best remedy from this COVID 19 outbreak is to maintain social distancing, good hygiene, and wearing of masks to prevent the spread of this deadly variant and the virus overall.

It was stated by Mike Ryan, who is the new emergency director of the World Health Organization, that the health authorities and systems are under increasing pressure in many countries because of the increasing cases and the ignorance of people who do not realize the sensitivity of the situation.

Everyone is taking the pandemic lightly, and they are back to their everyday lives as if the pandemic has ended, which is what is causing an increase in cases. If this does not stop, then the virus will rapidly spread worldwide and not just in Europe.

He also mentioned that this environment full of ignorance and intermixing of people would be the most significant source of virus spread. This is the reality that we can not deny, and this is the reality we need to focus on.

Lockdowns and curfews are not the only sources of controlling the virus, and they are not the only means of social measures that could be taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus. There is a lot more that could be done to control the spread starting with vaccination and awareness, Stated Maria van Kerkhove who is the epidemiologist at the World Health Organization.

The most sensitive of coronavirus infection age groups along with the adults above the age f 40, especially the ones with underlying health conditions or with weakened immune systems, are the ones that should be prioritized in providing the vaccination booster shot. These COVID 19 boosters are recommended by the European Union and are backed by the WHO, too, stated Soumya Swaminathan, who is working as a chief scientist at the World Health Organization.

She further said that the main things that need to be focused on right now by the world are the groups that are under higher risks and the groups that are unvaccinated as they are the ones under most threat.

About a hundred countries support the COVID 19 pandemic vaccine IP waiver consensus, which would be available by next week by the ministerial of the World Trade Organization, hoped Tedros.

Next week about one hundred and ninety-four state members of the health ministries will come together in a meeting which would be to sort out ways for COVID 19 pandemic prevention. Whatever is decided will be decided on an international level through a broad consensus so that everyone has a say in it and everyone works together.

Since the pandemic can not be fought alone now, it is time that the whole world stands together to fight off COVID and eliminate it entirely so that everyone can get back to their everyday lives. COVID 19 has caused so much pain by disrupting people’s daily lives, taking away their jobs, destroying the mental health of most, and taking away our loved ones. It is now time that states work together to end it once and for all.

For better pandemic management in the future, a binding pact would have to be made. He stated instead of a treaty between other countries of the world and the European Union.
