The Dabang Delhi team, who defeated Patna Pirates in the final, was booed for their superb raiding from Naveen Kumar and Vijay, who both scored key points in the second half. Patna Pirates’ Top Performers
The Patna Pirates might bemoan the fact that they gifted Delhi an additional point for the incorrect resurrection, but it all came down to one point, and that one point will keep the whole Patna Pirates support staff awake at night. Apart from the gaffe, Mohammadreza Shadloui also struggled in defence, and strangely, he scored more points from raids than from defence.
The best two teams from the league stages met in the final for the coveted Kabaddi League Season 8 trophy on Friday.
The Pirates can only blame themselves for conceding points and allowing Delhi to have a chance at a comeback. Their fifth loss in a row versus this opponent, as well as their past record, must have given Delhi a psychological advantage heading into this match. Dabang Delhi KC, take a bow; you’ve been a sight to behold.
When pitted against the great Pirates, Delhi did not falter for a single second and came out firing, deserving to be crowned victors!
Delhi has won by the tiniest of margins and will be celebrating all night as they raise the trophy. The importance of Naveen Kumar’s Super 10 cannot be overstated, as he, along with Vijay, ensured that the Delhi defense’s lacklustre performance was not revealed.
The gallant efforts of Sachin and Guman Singh were in futile, as the Patna defense was unable to repeat its heroics from the league stages when it counted most.
The applause for their comeback must go to Vijay, who remained believing against all odds that he could break through Patna’s legendary defense, which today appeared timid, rusty, and jittery. Vijay scored 14 points, including two key Super Raids that drastically transformed the game’s complexion and gave Delhi the lead.
The Pirates’ shoulders have sagged, and they are bo
und to be disappointed. Only a few blunders in the second half lost them the championship! Naveen’s season-long ambition of capturing Delhi’s first-ever PKL title has been realised!
Patna has been outplayed, and experience has won out, as Delhi was clearly the superior team tonight. They calculated the game correctly after losing by two points at the end of the first half.
