“I had a black buddy,” Morgan adds in her tweet. I liked her and believed she wanted me as well. She is suddenly angry and unfriendly. I’m sure I did nothing to her but make her white. Is this truly what our professors and political leaders want for our society? Is it fair to divide us based on our skin color?
Critical race theory (CRT) is a primarily academic concept taught at the university level that asserts that the effects of slavery are being felt today, with ramifications for the courts, the criminal justice system, and public education.
Morgan, the former minority leader in the Rhode Island House, tried unsuccessfully this spring to pass a law that would limit how schools teach about race in American history, provoking outrage from educators, parents, and other Rhode Islanders.

Rep. Morgan did not consider her tweet to be contentious:
In an interview on Tuesday, Morgan claimed that she didn’t think her tweet was controversial. “Unfortunately, this is how our society is headed,” she remarked, “that we are evaluating individuals based on their skin color rather than their character.” “I didn’t believe it was a contentious issue.”
She stated, “I like my pal.” “She’s funny, strong, and intelligent.” We always had a fantastic time whenever we got together. We had a good time together.”
On the other hand, Morgan felt rejected when she ran into her pal at a Christmas party. “I was overjoyed to see her.” I tried to catch up with her, but she was freezing.” When asked whether she tweeted the first salvo in a possible run for higher office
, Morgan responded no.
“Unfortunately, this is how our society is headed,” she remarked, “that we are evaluating individuals based on their skin color rather than their character.” “I didn’t think it was a divisive subject.”
“She remarked,” she said, “I like my buddy.” She’s witty, strong, and clever. “Whenever we got together, we always had a great time. We had a nice time as a group.” On the other hand, Morgan felt betrayed when she ran into her friend at a holiday gathering. “I was pleased to see her,” I said as I rushed to catch up with her.”
When asked whether she tweeted the first salvo in a possible run for higher office, Morgan responded no. “Dr. Martin Luther King envisioned a nation in which individuals were assessed on the content of their character.
That is the cause for which I am fighting. “How can that be debatable?” Morgan’s tweet went viral, garnering over 3,000 reactions, most of which were hostile.
George Takei, actor and activist, comments on Twitter:
In response to the message, George Takei of Star Trek fame wrote, “I had a white pal.” I liked him, and I think he liked me, too. On the other hand, Whites were hostile and rude following the attack on Pearl Harbor. Even though I’m confident we didn’t do anything illegal, they nevertheless sent us to camps. They now refuse to educate about it because it makes children feel horrible.”
Corey Jones, a candidate for Providence City Council, tweeted, “This remark is controversial.” You must resign and quit public service, Rep. Morgan. It makes no difference whether she is black or white.”
Morgan should be removed from committees, according to the BLM RI:
According to Harry Tuttle, executive director of Black Lives Matter, they should remove Morgan from the House Environment and Natural Resources Panel, House Health & Human Services Working Group, House Labor Committee, and House Municipal Government and Housing Committee.
In a statement, he stated, “This comment is reprehensible and extremely degrading to the Black and Brown communities.” Rep. Patricia Morgan would not have made this divisive statement or the many others she has made in the past if she honestly felt our skin color should not separate us.
