Facebook starts rolling out end-to-end encrypted backups to WhatsApp

Facebook recently announced that WhatsApp’s end to end encrypted chat backups for iOS and android is accessible starting from Thursday. The firm has provided the end to end encryption for chats for years, but with this new change, you can get that equal level of encryption with your backups. This amazing feature will roll out gradually for people on the latest version of the app.

WhatsApp backups are kept in iCloud or Google Drive, but that clearly shows that Apple or Google could hand over the backups to governments or law enforcement if required.  With the modification accessible on Thursday, you can have protected your WhatsApp cloud backups with a password or a 64-digit encryption key, which hypothetically means that no one else but you will be able to access the backup.
