- Call of Duty: Cold War is the game in question.
However, the franchise has experienced a significant drop in attendance in recent years, raising the question. Is Call of Duty on its way out?
Yes, there is a resurgence with Call of Duty Mobile and Call of Duty Warzone. On the other hand, the games haven’t been very great Call of Duty games. This is because the games have received little attention.
Nothing has genuinely come out yet to remedy any of these issues, whether it’s a lack of ranked play, skill-based matching, or an anti-cheat in their games. However, the only reason this has happened is because of past Call of Duty games. That implies we’ll have to go back to the beginning.

The Beginnings of Call of Duty:
In 2003 and 2004, the first two Call of Duty games were released. Activision, now Activision Blizzard, is the publisher, while Infinity War is the primary developer. It was designed to be a World War II-themed first-person shooter.
Treyarch took up the reins for Call of Duty 3 in 2006, making it the second version of a Call of Duty game. This sparked a hidden rivalry among developers that was never discussed until much later.
The Call of Duty’s Golden Age:
With Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, a new Call of Duty, the golden era of Call of Duty began. A Call of Duty game is not set during World War II. Then there was a simmering rivalry between Infinity and Treyarch as they battled it out to create the most OK Call of Duty game ever produced.
Call of Duty fans was treated to a wild journey with Infinity Ward’s Modern Warfare 2 and Modern Warfare 3, as well as Treyarch’s Black Ops 1 and 2. This is also the first time Sledgehammer appears in the scene. It was and continues to be some of the most OK days I’ve ever had playing Call of Duty. The visuals weren’t perfect, but the gameplay, modes, and gaming comradery more than made up for it.
Call of Duty’s Darkest Hour:
Infinity Ward wants to do something new after Black Ops 2. They created Call of Duty Ghost as a result of this. As a result, it was one of the poorest-performing Call of Duty games ever made and by far the worst to play.
Following Call of Duty, it was three years of back-and-forth development by separate studios, essentially the same game. This resulted in some of the most obnoxious gameplay, but it was never as bad as the game released in 2017.
The creators and publishers wanted to return to the foundations of World War Two and construct a Call of Duty game set during that period. In doing so, they created the worst Call of Duty game ever. It was the franchise’s third-lowest-rated game in its history.
In just four years and six Call of Duty games, the brand has managed to have three of the four lowest-rated Call of Duty games it has ever had.
Resurgence Possibilities:
Black Ops 4 was released in 2018. It also included a new game mode called Blackout. New game mode designed to have a battle royale feel to it and a new game mode for players to experience. It went off without a hitch. Treyarch created a masterpiece by recapturing the essence of what it was like to be a Call of Duty player.
It’s no surprise that it was one of the most popular Call of Duty games of all time, as well as one of the top-rated since the dark days began. Modern Warfare was released in 2019. Infinity Ward and Raven Software collaborated on the remake. It was what Call of Duty desired and required.
The game had a sentimental impact on its participants, transporting them back to simpler times. Only now, in the year 2020, have they released Warzone, a better version of Blackout that has increased the franchise’s international appeal, resulting in a much-needed rebirth.
The Dark Days Have Arrived
Unfortunately, Call of Duty and its franchise’s recovery was short-lived due to the following Call of Duty release. Call of Duty: Cold War is the game in question. Its SBMM, broken spawns, broken weaponry, and subpar maps prompted many Call of Duty gamers to abandon the franchise in favor of titles like Valorant and even Halo.
Sledgehammer opted to seize the reigns once more and create Call of Duty: Vanguard, as if things couldn’t get much worse, Another World War II-themed COD, as of right now, the current Call of Duty is the lowest-rated Call of Duty of all time.
What does Will Happen in the Future?
Who knows what Call of Duty and its franchise will be like in the future. Other than COD, there are a plethora of different games to enjoy. So much so that many COD pros are branching out to become pros in other games such as Halo.
